Staying motivated to train isn’t always easy, but for Bekah Shininger, a dedicated marathon runner, it has become a way of life. Over the years, she has discovered several key factors that keep her lacing up her shoes and hitting the pavement. Whether you're a seasoned runner or just getting started, Bekah’s insights might help spark your own motivation to stay active and push forward!

1. Mindset Shift: "I GET to Run" vs. "I Have to Run"

A simple change in perspective makes all the difference. Instead of viewing training as a chore, I remind myself that running is a privilege. I am blessed with a healthy body that allows me to move, explore, and push my limits. Staying fit and strong is a choice that empowers me to try new experiences and be present in every moment. When I shift my mindset, training becomes something I look forward to rather than something I have to check off a list.

2. Being a Pacer

One of the most rewarding aspects of running is pacing others. Encouraging and helping runners conquer their goal pace and finish time brings me so much joy. Knowing that I can be an instrumental part of someone’s race experience is incredibly motivating! Seeing runners achieve what they once thought was impossible fuels my own passion for training and reminds me why I love this sport so much.

3. The Outdoors

There’s something truly special about running outside. Connecting with nature gives me the mental clarity I need to complete my daily tasks and continue being creative. Whether it’s an early morning sunrise run or an evening jog with a cool breeze, the outdoors refreshes my mind and body, making every run more enjoyable.

4. Having Running Plans on the Horizon

Setting goals keeps me motivated. Whether it’s planning a casual run with friends or signing up for a race, having something to look forward to keeps my training consistent. Committing to an event holds me accountable and gives me a sense of purpose, making each workout feel like a step toward something exciting.

5. The Power of Cute Athletic Clothes

Never underestimate the motivation boost that comes from wearing cute and comfortable athletic wear! Feeling good in what I wear makes me excited to run and boosts my confidence along the way. When I love my gear, I feel ready to tackle my training sessions with energy and enthusiasm.

At the end of the day, motivation comes from finding what inspires you to keep going. Whether it’s a mindset shift, helping others, enjoying nature, setting goals, or simply loving your outfit, discovering what fuels your training can make all the difference. What keeps you motivated to train?
